We Need Your Help!
A WebQuest designed to explore natural disasters in real locations all over the world, the aftermath on the land, and the affects it has on people.
- 4th grade science
Introduction
The world has many natural disasters that can devastate people, land and animals. The Red Cross is very concerned about people's awareness of why and how the natural disasters occur and that people are not prepared for these events. Because natural disasters can occur at any time, it is urgent that you do something now! You have been hired to be a consultant in a research team and it is your job to inform people what to do if a natural disaster occurs.
AIM: How can you make more people prepared to deal effectively with the following natural disasters: tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes, and floods?
Task
Each team will create a pamphlet that will be given to the Red Cross for distribution to help people learn why and how natural disasters occur. Through these pamphlets, people will learn:
1. 10 or more facts based on real natural disasters that have already occurred.
2. How the disaster effects land, people, animals, and cost of a particular area 3. How to take safety precautions to save/protect themselves and their belongings. Another part of your brochure will list steps for people to take when a natural disaster occurs.

Process
Training for the Red Cross: Research a natural disaster and create a pamphlet
- You will be assigned to a red cross team of three to four students (by the teacher).
- You and your group will be assigned one of the natural disasters by drawing a card out of a hat.
- For each team the task will be divided. One member will be in charge of finding 10 or more facts on their natural disaster. Another team member will find how the disaster effects people and its surroundings. And the last member will discuss the safety precautions.
- 1-2 pages in the pamphlet should be dedicated to each one of those topics based (mentioned in step 3) on the natural disaster you and your red cross team is assigned to.
- Your red cross is responsible for preparing a 5 minute presentation about your disaster using the pamphlets you and your team created.
